Call
The translation of patent applications requires perfect language skills as well as in-depth expertise in the relevant fields of science and technology combined with knowledge of intellectual property law.
The translations must ensure full technical and legal accuracy of the translation with the original in order to preserve the exact meaning of the original text describing the invention or innovation. An unintelligible or incorrect translation can lead to significant legal problems.
Accurate and reliable translations of patents are key to protecting intellectual property on a global level. Patents must be translated so that technical details and legal terminology are correctly interpreted and understood in the target language. Mistakes in translation can lead to serious legal consequences. It is therefore essential to ensure that the translator has a thorough knowledge of the technical and legal field in question.

Solution for the client
If we can reliably meet the client’s assignments year after year?
Thorough preparation of documents
The legally binding text of patent applications is usually in scanned form. It is not efficient to translate from this format, so we convert all texts precisely and accurately into an editable format before translation. Some of the conversion is done by clever software tools, but with the emphasis on accuracy, their work needs to be checked and fine-tuned into the correct form and free of errors. Source text in editable format, e.g. MS Word saves the translators’ work, allows the use of CAT tools and a thorough quality control of the translated text.
Experienced and verified translators
Translation of patents requires knowledge of different areas of expertise in addition to. On the one hand, highly specialized terminology from a specific industry, e.g. engineering, biochemistry or pharmaceuticals On the other hand, terminology from the field of intellectual property, which uses standardized terminology, the use of which is indispensable. Specific requirements are placed on the translation as in the case of ordinary translations of legal texts. Accuracy is important in legal translations, and every comma or word can mean a shift in meaning.
Modern CAT tools
The use of modern CAT tools and proven workflows enables faster translations of texts, helps to maintain a uniformly translated terminology, and fundamentally improves the possibilities of quality control of translations.
Terminology and glossary
In cooperation with the client, we built a glossary and a quality control system for translated texts to meet the requirements of patent applications. Most of the specific requirements and instructions are beyond the normal quality control or scope of the processed instructions. The translated texts save the client time in further work with them.
We have been cooperating with the team of Otago s.r.o. since 2014 in the field of translations of European patents and patent applications in the fields of pharmaceutics, chemistry, mechanical engineering and electrical engineering from English, German and French into Slovak and Czech.
We particularly appreciate the professional and fast communication, the reliable fulfilment of the agreed deadlines for the delivery of translations and the high level of accuracy and quality of the translations delivered, which are crucial for us and our clients to ensure the legal protection of their innovations and inventions.
